Today, I broke outside of my box a little and went to meet some people that I have met only online before to start a knitting (but not exclusive to knitting) group. Kind of like a Stitch-n-Bitch that have become so popular.
It all happened because I've felt a little needy and wanted to meet some more people, as I really don't interact with many outside of work on a face to face basis. Thinking about this, and knowing that I knit and crochet the way I do, I posted in a group on Ravelry (a kind of social networking site for yarn enthusiasts that is currently still in beta) asking if there were any such meetings of knitters and crocheter in the mornings in the Charleston Area.
Life being as it is we decided that we would start one and today was the first meeting.
We are calling ourselves CHARMS after one of the members stated "if this keeps up we could be the CHarleston ARea Morning Stitchers" and we all really liked it.
This morning we met at one of the Starbucks in downtown and it was just what I wanted. We were all able to participate and talk (something I feel I have issues with, I tend to be more on the outside looking in but did NOT feel that way today) and shared tips and discoveries. I thought that maybe one of my sewing coworkers would be coming, but she didn't make it in.
We are more than open to having all sorts come and are very proud of the fact that we had four people today. For some groups it takes a long time to get that many.
Already I'm looking forward to the next time. It was decided to meet every other Friday. Our next meeting will be at a different local coffee shop in West Ashley.
If you want to know more details just email me and let me know, I'd love to share with you.
